Movie Review 11 (Extra Credit)

Hello! Today I’ll be making a review on my favourite television series, The Big Bang Theory! I’ll proceed with Season 8 which is the recent season I have seen. In this season, there are a few significant changes available and the most obvious would be Penny’s new look. She has a bob-cut haircut in this season compared to her long, blonde hair she’s been known of for the past seven seasons. On top of that, Penny now has stable job at a pharmaceutical company as a sales representative, really, good for Penny. However today, I will not be talking about Penny in this review but I’ll focus on the main character: Sheldon Cooper! Today, I’ll be writing based on the prompt: If you met the main character, do you think you will become friends with them? Why/why not?
kaley-cuoco-penny-the-big-bang-theory-leadpenny-n-a-pas-de-nom-de-famille_portrait_w532

And the answer is… NO! To begin with, I don’t share the same interests as Sheldon and he gets excited over trains. I hate trains! I know immediately we wouldn’t click if we met. I can’t even imagine any suitable topic Sheldon and I will be able to converse about if we were to have a conversation. Furthermore, I find Sheldon rather quite straight-forward and constantly hurting the feelings of the people around him without him noticing. It really is not his fault for being ignorant, that’s just a part of him the people around him has to live with every day. And me? I’m like the most sensitive person you can ever meet. Get offended over the little things and I don’t think I would even stand Sheldon for 10 minutes! Next, Sheldon always mocks Howard who apparently, to Sheldon, “only” owns a Master’s Degree. How terrible is that?! I don’t even own a Bachelor’s Degree so we all can guess how my friendship with Sheldon will end up. It’s interesting to have friends who are extremely brilliant but I think I will not be able to be friends with Sheldon for a very long time.

Game of Thrones: Season 1

Today, I’ll be writing a review on a popular television series I’ve been actively watching which is the Game of Thrones. I currently just finish the first season and I’ve been wanting to immediately continue with the next seasons however, my final exams are nearing and I don’t want to be watching the show in guilt. Moving on, the prompt for today’s review is: “The material reminded me of…”

BRIDAL MASK. A Korean drama I’ve seen 2 years ago which is by far the best and most impactful Korean drama I’ve watched throughout my entire life (I strongly recommend Bridal Mask to everyone who hasn’t seen it, it’s action-packed and the conflicts are interesting as well as well-developed)

GOT607_101615_HS__DSC6590_1_.0.jpg

Jaimie Lannister ❤❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

Why I think Game of Thrones is somehow similar to Bridal Mask is mainly because of their action scenes, their goriness and the issues and disputes between the characters are marvelously done. The most identical aspect would be providing the readers with anticipation before surprising them with really, really unexpected plot twists which simultaneously play with the emotions of the audience. That’s what I like the most. Movies which are unpredictable are the best as it isn’t easy to plot a story without having the audience to predict the plot beforehand.

Bridal Mask is a series of 28 episodes which tells us about the struggle of the Koreans in 1930s which at that period was the occupation of Japan in Joseon (Korea). It’s really similar to Game of Thrones in the sense that they have almost the same types of characters. As in Bridal Mask, the rebellions (the Korean fighters of independence) are parallel to The Starks in Game of Thrones as both fight for good causes. Not only the characters are parallel, the disputes of fighting for thrones are extremely similar. Like how the Korean fighters led by Lee Kang To who are courageously fighting and plotting winning strategies to obtain Korea’s independence from the Japanese and in Game of Thrones, the Targaryen and the Lannister both efforts to become the King of King’s Landing.

Insights on the Debate Tournament (Extra Credit)

An inter-class debate tournament was held at my college last week and I believe I’ve gain a myriad of new experience and knowledge not only by being one of the speakers, but also by observing the on-going debates. Amongst the motions that I found interesting were THBT Ice Cream Should Be Banned for The Elderly and THW Negotiate With Terrorists and this is due to the fact that I enjoyed listening to the points given by the fellow speakers whom I believe had done a marvellous research on the motions.

Through this debate tournament I’ve discovered that it’s extremely important to listen to your opponents’ points rather than just focusing on your own insights and facts. Not only could you gain more, you’ll be able to understand your opponents better thus, you’d easily get around and counter their points and make them to be in your favour. Debate is not all about speaking, but listening is just as important. This applies to our daily lives too, in order to comprehend and fight for our beliefs, we should be able to have  adeep understanding on the issue instead of talking nonsense with useless points.

In addition to the previous experience, I’ve also observed that it is highly crucial in debates for us to support the motions based on our assigned roles despite the fact that you might have an entirely opposite opinion the issue. An example close to my heart would be the time when I had to debate on the motion THW Kill Justin Bieber. To a Belieber like me, being assigned as the government was way against my personal belief. As what the match demanded, I still had to take on my responsibility as the government to support and give claims to ‘kill’ Justin Bieber. It wasn’t easy but in life, you have to always get out from your comfort zones.

Nerve

A very interesting movie which introduces a newly-concept of the cyber world. The lead characters are played by Dave Franco and Emma Roberts and they are a part of the many reasons I’ve decided to watch this movie in the first place. Aside from providing the audience with exposure of the real hidden depth of the Internet, the movie also has a quick-transition plot which has got my jaw open throughout the movie.

download

The movie revolves around an internet-based ‘Truth or Dare’ game that’s hidden in the dark web. Vee, a regular girl participates in the game initially just for fun when she gradually gets carried away by the excitement of the game and huge amount of money tagging along with every completed dare. Vee met a guy, Ian, whom she is always paired with in every dares. As they play together, they develop feelings and it is all fun and games until….Vee discovers that Ian, is a hoax! He is only using her to help him get to the final mission and free himself from the horrific game.

The prompt for today: The most significant aspect of the material is…

The idea of how dangerous the Web and the people of the internet are. There are scenes from Nerve on how Vee and Ian risk their lives just to keep up to the expectations’ of their audience in the game for instance when they ride a motorcycle blind-foldedly at extreme speeds.

download (1).jpg

Next, the idea of how gullible people are naively accepting what’s rendered to them on the internet is a highly crucial idea which is germane to our current situation. Rumours and slanders are widely being spread by irresponsible individuals and the saddest part is that, people of the internet actually take the slanders seriously and immediately assume those are of credible sources. In the movie, it is shown by Vee who blindly participates in the game although she acknowledges the harmful aftermath of the game. For instance, because of her naiveness, all of her savings in her accounts is taken away by the game.
